Whitmore Academy - Utah

As the result of an ongoing investigation into child abuse that has so far resulted in 7 criminal charges, it appears that Mark & Cheryl Sudweeks are closing Whitmore Academy.

The historic building and property are currently for sale along with several horses supposedly used for "equine therapy."

The question on everyone's mind is, if the Sudweeks leave Utah, where will they pop up next?

Mexico?

Perhaps.

But in 2001, they were run out of Mexico for illegally operating a youth program.

Canada?

Maybe.

But in 2002, Mark Sudweeks made history for being the first person ever banned from owning animals in British Columbia after he was convicted of starving 29 horses.

A state in the US that doesn't require licenses?

Now that's more like it.

In honor of our continent hopping couple, I'm inviting everyone to throw in their 2 cents.

What do you think the Sudweeks are going to do this time?

Get out of the teen help industry

Stay in Utah and open another program

Start a program in the state of

Start a program in Mexico

Start a program in Canada

We'll post a tally once the votes start coming in.

Personally, I'm hoping for # 1, but voting for # 3 - Idaho.

Chad Youth Enhancement Center - Tennessee

As we reported in September, 14 year-old Linda Harris died at Chad Youth Enhancement Center in Tennessee.

Linda, a New York resident had been sent to the facility by the Suffolk County family court.

The Nashville medical examiner says Linda died of a heart attack.

Chad Center officials have said that staff members were involved in some type of physical confrontation with Linda when she collapsed, and a woman who was at the hospital when Linda was brought in reported seeing mechanical restraints on the girl.

Linda's family has filed a wrongful death suit against Suffolk County and the state of New York.

Following Linda's death, Suffolk County removed all other children placed at the facility.

Tennessee officials are looking into the possibility that Linda was improperly restrained.
